A Rick and Morty movie is said to be in early development at Warner Bros.
According to Deadline, longtime franchise collaborator Jacob Hair is in talks to direct the project after spending several years working on the hit Adult Swim animated series.
Plot details for the film have not been revealed at this stage.
The movie has been discussed behind the scenes for years.
Co-creator Dan Harmon previously teased plans for what he described as “a super badass” feature-length installment tied to the sci-fi comedy franchise.
The iconic animated series is preparing to return for its ninth season on Sunday, May 24.
Since debuting in 2013, Rick and Morty has become one of Adult Swim’s biggest hits, earning multiple Emmy Awards and building a large global fanbase.
The show follows eccentric scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith as they travel across alternate dimensions while balancing increasingly chaotic family life back home.
Justin Roiland originally voiced both Rick and Morty before leaving the series in 2023. His exit came after felony domestic abuse charges were filed against him, though the charges were later dismissed. The characters are now voiced by Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden.
Hair joined the series in 2019 and has directed several episodes while also serving as supervising director.
His possible move to the feature film would mark a major expansion of his role within the franchise.
The voice cast for the show also includes Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer and Sarah Chalke.
A separate spinoff series focused on President Curtis is also in development for Adult Swim, with Keith David attached to star.
Rick and Morty movie does not have a release date yet.
